Having abundant empathy, often causes us to believe that giving unconditionally is a virtuous trait...
Are you giving too much?

If there's one thing I know about health professionals (myself included), especially animal chiropractic providers, is that we
gravitate toward being dangerously empathic.
Having abundant empathy, often causes us to believe that giving unconditionally is a virtuous trait - something we should be proud of, and even celebrated for.
Few would argue about the
virtuosity of giving without expecting anything in return. It's certainly conventional wisdom.
We offer our services, our time, our emotional support to almost everyone and anyone who needs it, when they need it. Many times, for free. We're good people, right?
"Sure, I'll spend an hour looking through my records to find that article you want."
"Sure, I'll send you that Amazon link to the product I'm recommending."
"Sure, I'll see your animal after hours (and be late for dinner with my family), and not charge you extra."
What I'm about to say, might be a bit of gut-punch...
Giving unconditionally is, in fact, a signal of a scarcity mindset, that neither benefits the receiver, nor the giver. In fact, worse...it steals from both.
When you give without expecting anything in return, you neglect the Universal Law that you deserve abundance, and in turn stifle the circular nature of giving and receiving. You create a blockage in the stream...
We most often do this because we believe there's a lack of resources (from the receiver) for us to receive. (read
that again)
This might stem from us not believing we're worth it (deserving). To avoid the pain of this reality, we convince ourselves we're acting altruistically (a lie). This makes us feel better and avoids suffering from the truth (we don't deserve it).
Here's what
I've come to learn, finally...(only took me 49 years...I'm still figuring it out).
✅ The Universe is infinitely abundant.
✅ YOU are worthy! You were born with a special gift to help animals.
✅ You deserve to GET more than "enough," and GETTING doesn't take away from anyone else, there's an infinite amount for them too!
✅ Every single time you give, EXPECT to GET! Not necessarily from the receiver, but from the Universe. Ask and you shall receive. (After you've given,
say in your head, "...and I expect a return." - from the Universe)
✅ When you expect more, you get more, and you can give more (rinse/repeat), all while reinforcing that YOU MATTER, YOU DESERVE IT, YOU ARE WORTHY.
✅ Resentment melts away. (Hint: this is the
magic!)
I've been recently practicing this, and it's really improved my life quite a bit.
In fact, it's helped me to be MORE giving than ever. I'm no longer worried, "I might run out," and I don't resent the receivers after I give. It's far more peaceful.
I truly hope this concept might help you too. Consider this my gift to you
...and I expect a return!
I'm an over-protective Beagle-daddy who insists my boys wear lifejackets when on the boat. p.s. They can swim quit well.
