It’s ok to make money hunny!

Ok my sweet friends, this little heart to heart is for my amazing doc’s out there with a heart of gold and a passion for helping animals but are feeling a little stuck in business. You keep spinning your wheels but feel like you are not getting anywhere.

Here are 3 little truths that I wish someone had told me early in practice. They are simple but profound ways to jumpstart your success and have the booming practice you deserve.

1. It’s okay to make money hunny.

When you care so much and truly just want to help others, it can feel weird to exchange that service for money, at least it was for me. I kid you not, when I first started in practice, I would get physically uncomfortable taking payments, yikes! This was steeped in limiting beliefs and poor money mindset that have taken me years to change.

So, let me give you the cliff notes. Money is energy. When you give abundantly of your heart, your skills, your time, you MUST be open to receive that same energy back to you and spoiler, it comes as money!!! If you feel uncomfortable making money, you are actually blocking it and your practice will stay at a plateau. You need to feel it deep in your bones that you are worthy and deserving of financial success. It doesn't make you greedy or uncaring. We all deserve to have the love we give return to us.

2. Boundaries are what makes you a great doctor.

Similar to feeling that you are worthy of making money, you need to know that creating boundaries will allow you to be the best doctor you can be. I’m calling out to all the people pleasers here.

For the longest time, I used to feel obligated to get someone in during off hours or on the weekends. You know that call . . . the dog is down and mom and dad are desperate. I would drop everything to help because I wanted to be a good doctor. But do you know where that left me . . . in overwhelm, exhaustion and burn out. I had to learn the hard way that defining a clear boundary for myself was an absolute must. I pride myself on giving 100% during my patient care. I want to be present, patient, thorough and kind at every single appointment.

So to offer the top notch care that I expect of myself, I need to make sure I have a full cup and that is only created with rest, family time and the opportunity to do the things I love. Creating boundaries of when you are willing to work and when you need to rest does not mean you don’t care. It means the opposite, that you care so much that you only want to show up as your best self.

3. Success comes when you can be yourself fully.

Here’s the deal, I have been in practice for the last 11 years and I have found that the more myself I can be, the more my practice thrives. People recognize authenticity and they yearn for connection. I kid you not, I talk baby talk to every single furry patient. I send get well cards and thinking of you text messages. I infuse my personality into all my newsletters and social media messages. I am goofy, loving and 100% me and I have seen growth in my practice every year for 11 years.

So turn up the dial on what is authentic to you and let the real you be seen. I promise you will attract better clients and have way more fun.

To sum up this love letter in your inbox, I hope you take away that you are freaking extraordinary and are doing such important work. With that, you deserve so much success, happiness and fulfillment. Keep wearing your heart on your sleeve with some strong as steel boundaries and you can’t help but succeed.
